A question I have often been asked in my Workshops, is, “How do I connect to my Tarot cards’.
What the person actually wants is to be able to pick up a pack of Tarot cards, ask a question and get a clear and profound answer.
They want to connect with the Tarot and ‘become one’ with them.
However, (and this is the Golden Key) if you want to connect to the Tarot cards, what you are actually asking is:
‘How do I connect deeply to myself’.
The Tarot is simply a mirror of where we are and if we are scattered and confused the cards we pull will reflect that.
When we connect deeply to anything we feel an inner sense of peace and harmony. Energy flows and answers are revealed.
So to be a great Tarot reader and connect deeply to the cards, you need to first learn to connect to yourself.
HOW DO YOU DO THAT??????
Here are 5 steps to connecting to yourself deeply in order to enhance your Tarot readings.
ONE
Learn to be Still every Day
Learning to be STILL is essential to learning how to connect to your cards.
I am not talking only about sitting in a lotus position and meditating (though it can include that too).
I am talking about finding ways to make your mind STILL.
If your mind is loud and busy it is very hard to listen to your intuition. Its like being at a nightclub and trying to have a conversation with your friend. Impossible right?
Find out the things that allow your mind to become STILL.
Perhaps it is when you are breastfeeding your baby and you are in the moment.
Perhaps it is when you are doing your morning 5 km run and you have no thoughts.
Perhaps it is when you are doing a craft project and you are in the moment and not thinking of the past or future.
For me, even after 20 years it can be really hard sometimes to be STILL. There are always projects to finish, people to ring, cooking to do and the never ending pile of laundry.
But I often choose to fold my clothes with awareness, watching my breath, being in the moment. I can stand at the sink and wash the dishes and only focus on the dishes. We often get confused and think that being STILL means meditation, yoga, tai chi and retreats.
But you can choose to be STILL right now.
Get into the habit of doing it daily and you will see a difference in how you read the Tarot cards.
TWO
Trust your Feelings
Do you ever want to punch someone?
Sometimes there is a good reason for it.
When we listen to our feelings we are also allowing ourselves to connect to our intuition.
There is a fine line, however because feelings can confuse us, and throw us off the path. Feelings can be overwhelming.
But…. if you meet a guy and your gut feeling is ‘walk away’, then you must walk away.
If you make a new friend and your feeling is you can deeply trust her, then trust her.
If you go to the supermarket and buy a goat yogurt and on the way home feel something is wrong with it, trust that feeling, even before you open it and find lots of mold inside.
THREE
Treat your Body and Mind with Respect
When you have energy you feel great. When you feel great you feel happy and connected to yourself and others.
So one of the primary factors to feeling great is to respect and look after your body and mind. That means eating well. That means not allowing negative talk to ruin your day. That means getting rid of those addictions. It means eating healthy foods with life force that satisfy you.
If you smoke, drink, eat McDonald’s and call yourself names all day – are you really connecting to yourself?
How can you ever possibly connect to the cards when you cannot even connect to the beauty and love inside of you?
I personally do not want to go to a Tarot reader who has no respect for him/herself.
How can I trust the information he/she gives me?
I am not talking about being holy – hell I love my glass of Coca-cola now and again.
I am talking about a primary need to be healthy – that need will make you more in tune. Being more in tune means you will read the Tarot cards better.
FOUR
Develop a Relationship with the Cards
Get your pack of Tarot cards and start building a relationship.
Look through them. Talk to them. Sleep with them beside you in bed. Stick them up on the walls where you live.
Chat to the characters in the cards. To develop a relationship takes time and it is the same with the Tarot cards.
Would you expect a new friend to give you all the answers to your life problems 15 minutes after meeting them.
I see people buy a deck of Tarot cards and then 15 minutes later get disappointed because they cannot get answers.
It takes time. Look at the pictures over and over again.
What do the cards mean for YOU?
FIVE
Understand Tarot through the lens of Everyday Life
I connect Tarot to everything in my life and I mean EVERYTHING.
I think, eat and sleep Tarot but not in an obsessive way.
I watch a movie – what Tarot card could represent a character?
I read a book – what Tarot card would describe the writer?
My son has a massive tantrum – what card would match his mood?
I watch the latest politics – what card would Donald Trump be? Obama? Clinton?
I go shopping – what Tarot card am I putting into action?
I listen to a song – what Tarot card does that song remind me off?
I pig out on chocolate after a stressful day – what Tarot card am I acting out right now?
To me by applying Tarot to everyday life I make it richer and deeper. It helps me connect to the cards as a living energy. I can then apply it to my questions and the questions I get from clients.
Tarot is symbolism and symbolism is around us all the time. For me to connect deeply to the Tarot I simply apply it to everything in my life.
