Court Cards can be tricky to learn. I was so confused at the beginning when I picked up a Tarot Deck. Court cards always left me a blank until I learned an important lesson. So, here are my Top Tips to understanding the Court Cards.
Court cards are ruled by the four elements of earth, air, fire and water. Each element matches a suit of the Minor Arcana in the Tarot deck. Each element also has a number of attributes associated with them.
EARTH = PENTACLES = HOME, FAMILY, BUSINESS, WORK, MONEY
AIR = SWORDS = MIND, THOUGHTS, INTELLECT, LEARNING
FIRE = WANDS = ENERGY, ADVENTURE, ACTION, CREATIVITY, ENTREPRENEUR
WATER = CUPS = EMOTIONS, LOVE, HEALING
In the Court cards we see four groups of people. Each group has a Page, Knight, Queen and King. Each group is ruled by one of the four elements mentioned above.
PAGE = YOUTH, IMMATURE, BEGINNINGS, INNOCENCE, EXCITEMENT
KNIGHT = ADVENTURE, ENERGY, PASSION, MISSION, GOAL, RESTLESS
QUEEN = FEMININE, NURTURING, COMPASSION, EMOTION ORIENTATED
KING = RATIONAL, LOGICAL, FOCUSED, GOAL ORIENTATED
So Pentacles (ruled by the element earth) will have a:
PAGE OF PENTACLES
KNIGHT OF PENTACLES
QUEEN OF PENTACLES
KING OF PENTACLES

You do not have to be confused by the Court Cards.
The easiest way to understand them is to see them as an ENERGY.
When you see a Court Card, ask yourself: What ‘level’ of energy is this card?
—————————————————
A PAGE WILL HAVE A YOUTHFUL INNOCENT ENERGY
A KNIGHT WILL HAVE A RESTLESS ENERGY WHERE THEY HAVE A QUEST OR MISSION
A QUEEN WILL HAVE A MATURE FEMININE ENERGY
A KING WILL HAVE AN EQUALLY MATURE BUT MALE ENERGY
A Page of Pentacles will therefore have the youthful energy of a Page and is ruled by the element Earth. He will be earthy as the element ruling the card is earth and he might be excited, full of energy and childlike.
The mistake people often make is to think that a Page must be a child, a Knight must be a teenager or young adult and a King and Queen must be mature adults. However if we see the Court cards as an energy, we do not have to stick to those stereotypes.
A Page could be an excited 82 year old woman about to do her first pottery class. A King could be an incredibly mature 14 year old girl or boy who is very responsible.

Always think of energy. If you think of energy then the Court Cards are much easier to understand.

HOW DO YOU KNOW IF THE COURT CARD REPRESENTS A PERSON, SITUATION OR AN ACTION?
Easy! The answer comes from the question.
If you ask about a person, the court card will tell you about that person. If you ask about a situation in the past, a court card can tell you the energy of that situation. If you ask about when a future event will occur, the court card can tell you the month in which it may fall.
