In this article I want to explain to you how to use the Tarot to help in understanding illness. This is something you can do for yourself personally. (If you are a professional reader you need to be aware of your code of ethics when talking to someone else about their health.)
If you have a physical or psychological disorder it is possible to go deep within and talk directly with it, using the Tarot cards as a medium. Whether it is a simple rash, psoriasis, arthritis, or cancer – your health condition has a voice if you give it one!
Here is a Tarot technique I use to help clients in understanding their illness. Try it with yourself.
Make sure you have a quiet space where you will not be disturbed…
Shuffle your Tarot cards.
For each question only pull one card. Write in your journal what you feel it means for you in this moment. How does this card answer your questions. Then put the card back into the pack and shuffle for the next question. Repeat this process until you have answered the four questions below.
If you get a Major Arcana card the question and answer are extra important and please pay extra attention to them. Major Arcana cards are archetypal in their energies and usually explain deeper causes and triggers.
Here are the four questions:
Why did you enter my body?
What do you want from me?
What can I learn from you?
What changes do I have to make – no matter how radical?
Next put down the Tarot cards and place your hands on the affected area (in the case of psychological difficulties place hands on the head) and imagine heat coming from the ground and light coming from the sky, through your body into your hands and onto the chosen area. Decide what form of love is most suitable (e.g. healing, compassion, nurturing, etc) and channel this into the area. Do this for as long as possible and then rest.
This healing hands energy is something you can do as often as you want, anytime, anywhere. By believing you are connected to the energy of the earth and the creator the process should be easy and straightforward. You may have emotions arise when you do this exercise. See it as a way to process what has been kept inside.
The real work then begins.
With the knowledge you received from the Tarot cards in understanding your illness, create a story line of your illness and all the ways it affects your life.
Create a drama, a picture or painting – put it out into reality.
You want to understand the illness from its own perspective (strange as it may sound) and thus slowly take power away from it and back into your own hands. Then either decide to try and heal yourself alone or else ask for help. If the illness is serious I do not recommend going it alone.
Of course never use Tarot as a substitute for medical help. The Tarot is a guide, just like a best friend is. Tarot cannot perform surgery and either can your best friend (unless of course they are a surgeon!).
There are many methods of releasing stored energy and no doubt you will find the one that suits your own personal requirements whether it be guided visualization, ritual, breath, re birthing, bodywork, drama, art, counselling, flower essences, emotional Herbalism, Naturopathy or Homeopathy.
Processing the information may be painful but once released leads to more questions being asked to the Tarot, such as:
Who am I?
What do I really want in my life?
What is my purpose for existing?
How can I bring more love into my life?
Tarot has so much to offer on so many levels and as you can see, can be applied to most situations in life.
If you feel the above process is too deep or scary to do alone, find a professional therapist or Professional Tarot reader who uses therapeutic Tarot who can work with you.
I hope you find healing and information in this article. I have used this process many times with my clients and it is very healing and revealing.
